Tag Rugby Mini-Tournament Round-Up!

The first half of the Summer Term may not have seen the weather one would have expected at this later time of the school year, but it hasn't stopped several cluster school tag rugby mini-tournaments from taking place down at Ledbury Rugby Club, with the tenacious Bosbury Lions embracing every opportunity to put their rugby skills to the test!

The first (very much magnificent!) seven Lions shown above took to the Ross Road pitches just before the Easter Holidays, thoroughly going on to earn their chocolate eggs and other sweet treats by putting in a superb performance playing with the bare squad and no substitutes to call upon, narrowly losing out 4-3 to Ashperton in their opener before going on to overcome both Ledbury and Eastnor with 4-2 and 5-2 victories respectively.

Our second more bolstered squad, featuring a number of returning faces rose to the challenge a fortnight after the holidays, and it was just as well the subs bench was occupied on this occasion as the team suffered a couple of unfortunate injuries during the training session which required Assistant Coach Ponter to provide the ice!

Showing characteristic grit and determination however, the Lions soldiered on, taking both Ashperton and Cradley to spirited 4-3 and 4-2 defeats in the two games which were played.

Our third and final squad for the time-being, with this week's tournament being called off due to a waterlogged venue participated just a week after the previous Lions team, this time only had one sub available (potentially three, but their two sibling mascots pictured above were unfortunately not quite old enough to take part), and even though victory narrowly eluded Bosbury once again, Assistant Coach Ponter was still massively impressed with their determination, superb sportsmanship and support for each other and their impeccable behaviour.

8-2 and 7-4 losses were recorded against Ashperton's 'A' team (no, not that one!) and Eastnor, before a much closer 5-4 defeat occurred against Ashperton's 'B' side.

Thank you to Coach Duffett for preparing the teams for their games and for refereeing on the days, Assistant Coach Ponter for accompanying the squads as first aider, and to all travelling parent and carer fans for providing transport to the events and providing great support from the sidelines.

Stay tuned for further mini-tournaments as we build up to the big Westons tag rugby competition held at Ledbury Rugby Club very soon!
