Grounds Day Returns with Lots of Walking and Lots of Printing!

This half term saw the long-awaited return of Bosbury School's Grounds Day after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as our lovely parent volunteers were welcomed back into school to help tidy and enhance the school grounds as pupils took part in some enjoyable outdoor activities.

The day took on a different format for its return this year to tie in with Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with pupils being encouraged to come into school dressed in the red, white and blue colours of the Union Jack as Class 3 had the special treat of working with local artist and one of our lovely parents Sunny Todd all day to create some absolutely superb sustainable bags for life, featuring bold and colourful natural-themed designs using screen printing!

The process had a number of steps, beginning with sketching and making the printing blocks in class the day beforehand ready for the T-shirt bags...

... and after the printing took place on the day with the designs being left to dry over the weekend, it was then time to get crafty once again in sewing the bags together! What an amazing job the children did too!

The final stage was to then print further designs on to the bags themselves...

... before our very excited little artists and seamstresses were overjoyed to be able to take their creations home! What talented and very proud-looking fashion icons!

While Class 3 were taking part in their printing extravaganza, the rest of the school embarked on an enjoyable walk around the local lanes, fields and orchards, navigating their way through rows and rows of extremely tall crops (don't worry, we didn't lose anyone!), vaulting over several stiles, passing by several cows, and even meeting an extremely friendly pig! As you can see, our lovely school dog Teddy really enjoyed being given the chance to stretch his four legs!

Back at school, with Class 2 having departed for their weekly swimming session, there were further outdoor activities for the rest of the school as Class 4 mapped out our lovely school grounds with Miss Spence, including our fantastic new pond courtesy of FOBS, while Class 4 even managed to take some time out from all the printing to create flower rosettes and butterflies from newspaper and watercolours!

Class 5 also enjoyed making Cheerio bird feeders with their Class 1 buddies, and of course, there was plenty of time at the end of the day for some fun free play as well!

A HUGE thank you to Sunny Todd for once again giving our pupils a fantastic artistic experience, as well as another HUGE thank you to Polly Gregory for co-ordinating the Grounds Day planting and tidying operation and to all parents who came in to help enhance our school grounds. Thank you also to Miss Cooke for planning out the route for the walk and leading it.
