Class 3 Eco-Warriors Receive Blue Peter Badges and Commendation from Attenborough!
Class 3, Mrs. Dark, Mrs. Christopherson, Mr. Wilf and Master Otto were absolutely DELIGHTED to open up a mysterious package which arrived in the school foyer recently, only to find that it contained a Climate Heroes certificate and letter from the editor of the BBC's Blue Peter programme, AND a fabled green Blue Peter badge for each pupil (yes, they still do them!).
The badges, certificate and letter were very well-earned rewards for all of the work Class 3's eco-warriors carried out around the school grounds last half term, being inspired by the work and books of the great Sir David Attenborough to make their own environmental pledges about protecting and preserving the environment through taking key issues such as power, plastic and planting into consideration.
The children spent a number of weeks taking on a green mission in order to enhance and protect the nature around the school grounds, beginning with a fact-finding exercise where they surveyed the plants around school making notes on their individual functions, before even creating their own set of eco questions to ask their parents at home as part of their home learning!
The class then got their green fingers swiftly to work by planting a new set of trees up at our forest school site, tending to the flower and food crop beds in both the tyre planters and our wonderful new school greenhouse, planting tomatoes, cucumbers and courgettes, as well as picking up any litter around school.
Back in class, the children penned their own beautifully-decorated letters to the country's favourite natural historian, and, to their absolute amazement, it didn't take long for the great man himself to actually write back to Mrs. Dark, even taking the time to answer some of the pupil's questions! WOW!
A HUGE environmentally-friendly well done to all of Class 3 on all of their brilliant ecological efforts which resulted in such a remarkable payoff, and to Mrs. Dark for organizing the project. We have hopefully inspired a new generation of green eco-warriors ready to take on the immense environmental challenges facing us over the coming years and decades.
WELL DONE CLASS 3 - ECO WARRIORS OF THE FUTURE!
