Our Governors (March 2020)

Letter from the our new Chair of Governors - Mr Mike Sessarego

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am honoured to have been chosen to be the new Chair of Governors at Bosbury School.  Although I have only been a member of the board of governors for eighteen months, I bring to the role a great deal of relevant experience.

For twenty-one years I was the headteacher of a similar sized school to Bosbury, so I understand the hard work that is required of a small staff if they are to offer a rich and varied curriculum.  I also bring to the role seven years working as a School Improvement Partner.  In that position I supported schools in an urban setting and had my eyes opened to the range of difficult and challenging situations they have to face.

As a great believer in providing an interesting and exciting curriculum, it is encouraging to see the wide range of activities that take place in school.  A broad and balanced curriculum provides every child with an opportunity to succeed and, fortunately, also puts us in a good place with regard to the new Ofsted Inspection Framework.

From the moment I entered the school I felt very much at home in an environment very similar to my former school. I was impressed by the behaviour of the children, by the commitment of the staff and the leadership to help them to achieve their potential.  This has led me to volunteer every Thursday, in Class 1, and has helped me to get a real understanding of the day to day running of the school.

I am very fortunate to follow two excellent chairs of governors, Mrs. Emma Smith and Mr. Robert Lane, who have helped established good systems and a strong Christian ethos.  They will be a hard act to follow, but I will certainly do my best.

Best wishes

Mr Mike Sessarego - Chair of Governors

GOODBYE AND THANK YOU TO...

Mrs. Emma Smith, who is stepping down as Chair of Governors after four years of dedicated service to Bosbury School. Emma has worked diligently to help steer the school through a number of different challenges, leading the governing body brilliantly and being an immense help in particular to Miss Spence in the running of the school. Thank you Emma, the school will miss you as Chair but we know that you will still be a familiar face at the school gates with both Annie and Ollie still in Class 5!

... AND WELCOME TO OUR THREE NEW PARENT GOVERNORS!

In addition to Mr. Mike Sessarego taking up the Chair of Governors role, we would also like to extend a huge welcome to Mrs. Matilda Attwood, Mr. Chris Coleman and Mr. Digby Morgan, who have all recently joined us as Parent Governors.

Matilda qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2008 and worked for the next seven years in Gloucestershire for NHS Care Services. In 2015, she and her family moved to Foxhill just outside Bosbury and her lovely children Winnie and Franklin both attend our School in Classes 2 and 4 respectively. Matilda now works part time as an independent speech and language therapist for children in the local area, and enjoys art and gardening as well as being passionate about wildlife conservation.

Matilda volunteers as a home visitor for Homestart Herefordshire, who do extremely valuable work in supporting the emotional health of children and their parents by listening and offering a wide variety of practical support. Matilda is also an established member of Friends Of Bosbury School (FOBS), our school's lovely volunteer PTA team, and she is now very much looking forward to extending her work further by getting involved with governance at, as she very rightfully puts it, our 'lovely and happy school'!

Chris works as a solicitor advocate specialising in legal aid cases, and for well over 15 years, he has represented his clients in courts, prisons and police stations across the country.

Chris is also both a district and county councillor in roles outside of Herefordshire, currently working as the Cabinet Member for the Environment on Cheltenham Borough Council where he has overseen large infrastructure projects, including the building of both a new accessible and inclusive play area and an £8.5m crematorium, as well as the overhauling of the waste and recycling service in the town.

As a county councillor, Chris has served on the Children and Families Scrutiny Committee and spent several years as a member of the Adoption Panel in Gloucestershire. He has also been an elected member of the Local Government Association's Children and Young People Panel and represented the LGA at the National Adoption Leadership Board.

Chris' son Oliver is in Class 1, and he visits the school regularly as a parent reader. He also joined a school trip at the end of the summer term as a parent helper and  visited the school during the 'Aspire To Be' week back in the summer last year to discuss his work with the children.

Digby is a partner in a large firm of solicitors, working in the real estate sector and specialising in property law.  Prior to this, he was a district solicitor for Malvern Hills DC, and currently also acts for a vareity of charities, housing associations and other similar organisations. Digby has three boys at school - Bertie in Class 1, Stanley in Class 3, and Arthur in Class 5.

Congratulations to Matilda, Chris and Digby on becoming our new Parent Governors, and we look forward to the wealth of experience and knowledge that they can bring to our hardworking governing body.
