Bosbury Sports Stars Shine at JMHS Tournament!

It may have been the final week of one of the longest school terms for a number of years, but this didn't stop thirteen keen Bosbury athletes from accompanying Mr. Ponter and Mr. Butler to John Masefield High School on Wednesday morning to take part in the opening heats of this year's Sainsbury's School Sports tournament.

The competition was fierce with five other local schools participating as each team of sportsmen and ladies were tasked with tackling relay races, long jump and speed bounce events as well as a javelin challenge and a gruelling obstacle race at the end.

It was the ladies' turn first to step up to the relay, while the chaps took on the long jump challenge. The girls ran brilliantly with some impressive turns of speed, while the boys showed some great jumping skills.

The roles were then swapped as the boys literally passed the baton while the girls showed the kind of jumping prowess which even Jonathan Edwards would have been proud of. As you can see, some of the boys ran so fast that they appeared blurred on camera!

The javelin competitions then followed as all of those maths lessons on angles then came in unexpectedly handy as the competitors aimed for 45 degrees and plenty of power to see some startling distances being achieved.

Following a quick spot of speed bouncing, it was then time for the final obstacle relay as the keen eyes of John Masefield's Year 9 sports students were on the hurdles to make sure that competitors cleared all of them!

The winner of the competition is yet to be decided as the John Masefield PE teacher awaited to put all of the results and statistics into a spreadsheet to determine the victor, but rest assured you will know the result soon after it is announced!

Regardless of the final standings, Team Bosbury put in a sterling performance, trying their very best in each and every event as well as showing exemplary standards of behaviour and sportsmanship throughout. Mr. Ponter went as far to say that this one of the best groups of children he has ever taken to a sporting tournament in terms of both effort and conduct - very well done everyone!

Thank you to Mr. Ponter and Mr. Butler for accompanying Team Bosbury to the event, and a huge thank you also to all of the parents who provided transport to and from the venue - your support is hugely appreciated and the children would not be able to attend these competitions without your help!
